I was tasked with designing a new brand aimed at teenagers (primarily boys 13-19). Using modern language, bold colours and quirky character design, I created Mi M8s. The brand is still in its early days, but has received positive feedback from national retailers. The range of cards, plush keyrings, mugs and notepads were launched at the Spring Fair International at the Birmingham NEC.
I was asked to design a range of nightwear to present to high street clothing store New Look. Aimed at 9-15 year old girls, the artwork design was based on the rise in prominence of street culture, and the influences of cut ‘n’ paste, doodled and scribbled themes.
I created this artwork as a radical move on for the Violent Veg brand. The graffiti, grungy style lends itself to the images, creating a colourful and fun look. A complete range of calendars and diaries were produced and sold in the likes of Calendar Club and Clintons. I also used the look for a range of stationery visuals which were presented to Paperchase.
This FSDU was designed to hold over 400 plush, as well as keyrings, badges, leaflets and promotional add-ons. I created a concept and visuals, and worked with an artist to create the artwork. The unit has been a huge success, maximising sales and featuring in national and independent retailers nationwide. The design was recognised with a Gold award at the 2012 Popai (point of purchase advertising international) awards.
Being a long established and internationally recognised brand for over 15 years, Me to You needed a bit of a refresh for the Brand Licensing Show 2012. Using various new artwork styles, I created graphics for the stand as well as promotional materials. The result was quite radical for a usually traditional brand, and received a lot of very positive feedback.
Now in it’s 25th year, Carte Blanche needed a new website and corporate look. I created the new artwork and design for www.cbg.co.uk. The artwork style is now being used across all promotional material for the company.
2012 saw the launch of the Tatty Teddy & My Blue Nose Friends toy brand. I created artwork for an exhibition stand at the London Toy Fair, together with a variety of promotional materials. The stand was named in the top 5 best stands of the show.
I designed an integrated online Me to You store for the Argos website (www.argos.co.uk/metoyou). This is ‘the one stop shop’ for Me to You fans on the Argos website. I also regularly design jewellery, gift and toy pages for the Argos catalogue, 2 examples are shown here.
The aim of this project was to combine promotion of the new everyday Me to You cards, together with a competition aimed at driving sales. The main component was an isle end display I designed for Clinton Cards. This was a complete success, sales of Me to You cards increased 40% compared to those of the previous Me to You isle end. The design was recognised with a Silver award at the 2011 Popai (point of purchase advertising international) awards.
These visuals were part of a potential £150 million project, which would see Me to You team up with Tesco in a huge branding excerise. I created a large number of visuals which were presented to the Tesco board and very well received. Whilst Me to You hasn’t taken over the store just yet, it has a rapidly increasing presence.
I created the Scarlet Ink brand for my final major project, whilst studying for my degree in Communication Design. The brands ethos was about not giving in to stereotypes and prejudices and just wearing what you want! I used subtle humour to create a range of customised clothing, accessories, branding material and a website.
These are some new artwork graphics and experimental styles I created for Me to You. My aim was to push the more traditional boundaries of the brand.
This Isle End, produced exclusively for Clinton Cards, was to promote a new style direction for the Me to You brand - Sketchbook Smiles. I created the easel concept including all templates, to show off these new card designs. The design was recognised with a Silver award at the 2010 Popai (point of purchase advertising international) awards.
During my spare time, I am often designing musical posters for a local theatre group. It presents a good challenge and opportunity to explore some different artwork styles.
I was asked to create a brand style for a new housing development/building business, ILM Developments. The brief required me to create a logo that incorporated the companies name whilst giving a hint of what they do. I implemented this across a range of stationery and their website.
These characters were designed as a sub-brand of the hugely successful My Blue Nose Friends brand. Whereas the current brand was primarily aimed at girls, this was aimed at boys. I used blues as they were in-keeping with the current brand whilst the garish greens and oranges made it more appealing to the target market.
